Olive wood is one of the most beautiful materials you can bring into your kitchen. It is dense, naturally resistant to odours and stains, and every piece carries its own swirling grain. With a little love, your spoons and boards will only get more beautiful with age.
Wash by hand, dry right away
Rinse your olive wood in warm, soapy water after each use and dry it immediately with a soft towel. Never soak it and never put it in the dishwasher — long contact with water is what causes wood to crack.
Oil it once a month
Rub a few drops of food-safe mineral oil or olive-wood oil into the surface with a clean cloth. Let it soak in overnight, then wipe off any extra. Your piece will look rich and glossy again.
Refresh with a lemon
To remove smells from garlic or onion, rub the surface with half a lemon and a pinch of coarse salt, rinse and dry. If it ever feels rough, a quick sand with fine sandpaper and a fresh coat of oil brings it right back.
