There is nothing like wrapping yourself in a plush cotton towel. Here is how to keep yours feeling hotel-soft wash after wash.
Wash before first use
New towels have a finish that makes them look perfect on the shelf but less absorbent. One warm wash removes it and fluffs up the fibres.
Skip the fabric softener
Softener coats cotton fibres and slowly makes towels less absorbent. Instead, add half a cup of white vinegar to the rinse every few washes — it removes detergent build-up and leaves towels fresh.
Use less detergent
Too much soap leaves residue that makes towels stiff. Use about half the recommended amount and choose a warm, not hot, wash.
Dry low and shake well
Give each towel a good shake before tumble drying on low. Take them out while still very slightly warm and fold right away.
